Annual Rummage Sale

The Township will be holding its annual rummage sale on Saturday, September 11th, 2010.  The Township will publish the ads in the Ironwood Daily Globe on Friday, September 10th.  We will list your featured items in the ad, as well as the times of your sale.  Please call 906-932-5800 by noon Tuesday, September 7,  if you would like to participate.  Maps and a copy of the listings may be picked up at the office after Wednesday, September 8.

 

Recycling

The Gogebic Range Solid Waste Authority (transfer station) is going to accept recycled items in the near future. We will update our website when we have the specific information.

 

Water Project Update

The GRWA Ironwood Township Segment 1 water project is progressing and scheduled to finish in 2011. Water mains are currently being installed on East Sunset Road. Mainline work is complete along Lake Road, Curry Street, Oak Hill Lane, Slade Road, and Greenbush. Water service work is almost complete on West Jackson and West Margaret, and Sunnyside. Paving is scheduled for September on Jackson, Margaret, Vanderhagen, Sunnyside and Slade weather permitting. For residents in the construction zone along Lake Road, Forslund Building Supply, Inc. has graciously allowed the free rental of their pressure washer. Call Forslund’s at 932-2311 for the rental.

 

Wastewater Project Update

The installation of the new sewer main lines along Lake Road, Carol Street, and Jean Street is complete. Approximately 800 feet of sewer main line is scheduled to be installed on West Sunset Road and the area near the former sewer plant. 

 

Road Update

Lake Road is scheduled to be blacktopped in September. The blacktopping of Lake Road, Greenbush Street, Powderhorn Road, and Black River Road are Gogebic County Road Commission Projects. The blacktopping of other roads due to the water main line installation are part of the water project and are also scheduled to be blacktopped in September.  

 

Parks and Recreation Committee

The Parks and Recreation Committee has been working towards the development of the Airport Recreation Park. The development includes trails, playground equipment, parking, indoor bathrooms, a pavilion, and a sand volleyball court. The park will serve as the trailhead to the regional trail system. People/organizations interested in donating time, labor, or monetary contributions may contact the township or one of our Parks and Recreation Committee members. Members include Jason Hofstede, Don Cvengros, John Garske, Marilyn Partyka, Dan Collins, Brad Noren, Kim Mattson, and Jyl Renee Olson.

 

Cemetery

Please remove any flowers or other items from the cemetery by September 30, 2010.

Newsletter Spring 2010

Make A Difference In Your Community Day

Please join us for our second annual Make A Difference In Your Community Day, Saturday, May 8 from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Please call Rachel at 932-5800 to ‘adopt’ a road or portion of a road to pick up trash. Meet at the Township Hall at 8:00 a.m. to pick up gloves and trash bags, bring the trash back to the hall, and then join us for coffee and treats. If you would like to participate before May 3, please stop by our office to pick up bags and gloves starting Monday, May 3. Thank you to all who participated last year in helping clean up the community.

 

Spring Clean Up Day

The second annual Spring Clean Up Day will be Saturday, May 22. For items not made of steel, dumpsters will be made available at the Township Hall from 8 a.m. – noon or when dumpsters are full. Only Ironwood Township residents and taxpayers are eligible for this convenience. No commercial business please. No tires or building materials allowed.  Larger scrap metal such as cars, trucks, and heavy metal not able to be brought to the Township Hall can be picked up from your home, please call Rachel at 932-5800 to arrange pickup.

 

Water Project Update

The installation of the new water lines started began Monday, August 17, 2009. The information hotline  932-3393 has updated information about the project and which roads are being worked on. The tentative construction schedule (weather dependent) is:

Margaret/Sunnyside-West of Lake Road to Vanderhagen complete by April 23

Margaret East of Lake Road-April 26-May 7

Jackson Road-May 10-21

Slade Road-May 24-26

Sunset Road-June 2-July 9

Lake Rd.-done by June 11

 

Wastewater Project Update

Ruotsala Concrete Construction was the successful bidder on the wastewater project. Work will begin along Lake Road installing a sewer main after the water lines are installed in the water project.

Mother’s Day Brunch

The Ironwood Township Fire Department will be holding their annual Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Township Hall.

Annual Rummage Sale

The 6th Annual garage sale will be held Saturday, September 11.

 

 

Parks and Recreation Committee

A special thanks to our Parks and Rec Committee for their hard work in the Airport Recreation Park grant application. The area logged on the west side of Terminal Lane will be developed into a parking lot. Parking along Airport Road will be eliminated due to safety concerns. The development at the Airport Recreation Park includes trails, playground equipment, parking, indoor bathrooms, a pavilion, and a sand volleyball court. The park will serve as the trailhead to the regional trail system. People/organizations interested in donating time, labor, or monetary contributions, please contact the township.

 

Cemetery

Planters and flowers may be placed at the cemetery on or after Friday, May 28 to allow for final mowing before Memorial Day.

 

Credit/Debit Cards

The township will soon be capable of accepting credit/debit cards for tax, utility, and garbage payments. More details to follow.

 

Election

School election will be held on May 4, 2010. The Clerk’s office will be open on Saturday, May 1 from 8:30-2:30 for absentee ballots.

 

Traffic Report

The speed limit on Lake Road in the construction zone is 25 mph. Fines are double in construction zones. Alternate routes are encouraged.
